Heart-Opening Vinyasa

Enjoy this 67 min. heart-opening, backbending vinyasa class, inspired by a poem by Rumi. It begins with a “heart bench,” modeled here (http://wp.me/P3BtTE-eN)  by my wonderful husband, Chris:

Heart bench using blanket roll right underneath your spine (place the blanket about 4 -6 " away from your butt, then lay back)

Heart bench using blanket roll right underneath your spine (place the blanket about 4 -6 ” away from your butt, then lay back)

heart bench blocks

Heart bench with blocks. One block, tall way, under your skull. Second block, medium tall way, makes a shelf for your shoulder blades

Our inspiration for this podcast is the following poem by Rumi, which suggests that our emotions are a bridge to the spiritual world, and that to experience all of our emotions fully (whether they are joyful and pleasant or not!) is a way of connecting with the divine, and receiving from it.

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
